No Shortage of Essentials in Kishtwar: DC Reassures Public Amid Panic Buying Rumors
KISHTWAR, March 27: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kishtwar, Sh. Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), has issued a strong advisory to the residents of the district, confirming that there is an absolute sufficiency of fuel, food grains, and other essential commodities. The statement comes in response to growing public anxiety that had led to an unusual rush at petrol pumps and LPG distribution centers.
Stock Position Exceeds Routine Levels
Addressing the rumors of potential shortages, DC Pankaj Kumar Sharma clarified that the district’s current inventory is not only stable but, in many cases, better than standard routine levels.
The district currently holds a stock of over 1,000 LPG cylinders, which is more than enough to meet the demand for the next four to five days. This stock is distributed across the six LPG agencies operating within Kishtwar and aligns with the standard storage capacity maintained by the administration.
Transparent and Secure Distribution
To ensure a fair and organized supply chain, the DC emphasized that the LPG distribution system is strictly OTP-based. This measure ensures that every cylinder is accounted for and issued only after proper verification.
Furthermore, all local agencies have been directed to prioritize home delivery services. This move is intended to prevent crowding at agency outlets and ensure that every household receives its supply comfortably at their doorstep.
Fuel and Commercial Supplies Secure
Regarding petroleum products, the DC confirmed that the district has sufficient reserves of petrol and diesel to last for the next four to five days. Given the specific number of fuel outlets in the region, these stocking levels are considered a standard safety margin and do not indicate any impending disruption.
The administration has also taken steps to ensure that commercial-grade cylinders remain available for critical infrastructure, including hydroelectric power projects, ensuring that essential development work remains unaffected.
Official Advisory to the Public
The District Administration has appealed to the citizens of Kishtwar to remain calm and act responsibly. Residents are urged to:
-
Avoid Panic Buying: Purchase only what is necessary for immediate use.
-
Refrain from Hoarding: Excessive stocking creates artificial scarcity and hurts the community.
-
Complete e-KYC: Since the system is digital and OTP-verified, keeping your credentials updated will ensure a smooth and uninterrupted supply.
The DC concluded by reiterating that the supply chain is being monitored closely and there is no reason for alarm.
