World Bicycle Day 2022: DC Kishtwar flags off the cycle rally

Department of Youth Services & Sports Kishtwar today organized a cycle rally here from Mini Secretariat Kishtwar which culminated at TRC Kishtwar. At the outset, DYSSO Kishtwar Kharati Lal Sharma welcomed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar Ashok Sharma the chief guest of the occasion who spared time from his busiest schedule to grace the occasion. The rally was flagged off by the chief guest wherein more than 60 cyclists including school students took part.


The programme was attended by the sports officers, officials, senior citizens and parents of the students. The aim of this programme was to motivate general people to use cycling in their daily lives for healthcare and physical fitness. Cycling involves different physical activities and if continuously adopted, one can be free from obesity, stress, anxiety and other diseases said the Chief Guest on the occasion.

He added that adopting cycling by common citizens only for 30 minutes will decrease body fat levels, increase cardiovascular fitness, and muscle strength, improve joint mobility & posture and strengthen bones. The chief guest awarded cyclists with medals and certificates. In the under 14 year age group category, Mohd Ibraheem bagged 1st position whereas 2nd position went to Imad Abid both from Elite Public School Kishtwar and 3rd position was secured by Mohd Khayam from SDM public school Kishtwar.


Under 17 yrs age group,1st position was bagged by Jibran Nabi, 2nd by Mahran & 3rd by Umar Farooq, all 3 cyclists represented Govt Boys HSS Kishtwar. In the u/19 age group category, Shakeel Akther, Sameer Kumar & Akshay Kumar are all from Govt. Boys HHS Kishtwar bagged 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions respectively.


Among Girls Sumedha Thakur from SDM school, was the only girl who reached the destination. The cycle rally was organized as a part of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav-India@75 & as a part of World Bicycle Day. Lastly, anchor Javed Iqbal Sheikh thanked all participants and refreshment was provided to all participants.

Other sports staff also remained present on the occasion.
