People of Kishtwar celebrated Iconic week festival with great enthusiasm and gaiety

District Administration Kishtwar in collaboration with the Tourism Department,Department of Youth services and Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers welfare yesterday celebrated the “Iconic week festival” under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsa (India@75) with great enthusiasm and gaiety.

The festival witnessed a series of activities that continued throughout the day under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Sharma.



Earlier, in the wee hours, District Administration Kishtwar in collaboration with Department of Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Kishtwar and Kishtwar Development Authority celebrated Saffron Plucking Festival at village Pochhal.

The saffron farmer collected the saffron crop amid traditional celebration besides traditional food viz. Kesar Kehwa, Noon Chai, Halwa,local bread Bathoura etc. was served among participants during Saffron Plucking festival at Pochhal.

Speaking on the occasion DC Kishtwar appreciated the initiative taken by Tourism Department to highlight the saffron cultivation practices among the local youth and give occasion a festive look.

He appealed the youths of Kishtwar to tap the saffron and allied spice growing potential of the district Kishtwar and to make their earning grow manifold by adopting new techniques md technology besides directed concerned departments to organise awareness progress about the technical know how of this cash crop.

Later in the evening ADDC Kishtwar Sham Lal along with CEO KDA Inderjeet Singh Parihar and DYSSO K L Sharma flagged off the Massive and enthusiastic “Run for unity” Marathon organized by Department of Youth services and Sports Kishtwar in collab with District administration Kishtwar at chowgan ground Kishtwar.

About 200 Boys and 125 girls participated in the marathon and the first three winners were felicitated with awards by dignitries.

Finally, In the late evening, DC Kishtwar Ashok Sharma along with Principal District & Session Judge Kishtwar Yash Paul Kotwal, SSP Kishtwar,Shafkat Hussain Bhat and ADDC Kishtwar kick-started the cultural night programme with lightening of lamp at historic Chowgan ground Kishtwar.

Whereat, PRIs, district and sectoral officers ,prominent/senior citizens ,scores of locals marked their presence in the programme.

The mesmerizing cultural programme witnessed the participation of local and provincial level artists who enthralled the audiences through their scintillating performances.

The cultural items based upon the the unique tradition folk culture of Paddar, Nagseni,Mughal Maidan and Chhatroo area were presented before audience which throbed the heart of people.

The main attraction of the mega bonanza was the the solo and group songs performance by the emerging young local artists who performed Kishtwari, kashmiri,Gojri and Dogri and Buddhist folk songs.

Speaking on the occasion DC kishtwar appreciated everyone who made their efforts to give festive look to this programme make this grand success.



Meanwhile, Chief executive officer KDA Inderjeet Singh Parihar thanked district administration and other concerned departments for their coordination and cooperation in making event successful.
