Department of Agriculture organises Kissan Mela cum Exhibition at Subash Park Kishtwar

Kishtwar,23-03-2023.

On the directions of Director Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Jammu K.K.Sharma, a mega Kissan Mela cum Exhibition was organized today at Subash Park, Kishtwar under the supervision of Chief Agriculture Officer Kishtwar Amjad Hussain Mallik with active participation of more than 400 farmers.




The event was graced by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS),
SSP Kishtwar Khalil Ahmed Poswal, President, Municipal Council, Sajjad Ahmed Najjar ,Sectorial Heads of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, District & Sub-Division Level Officers, PRI members and other officers & officials of allied departments.

On the event, plethora of stalls were laid out displaying various achievements, technologies and machineries available for the farmers to adopt so they are able to enhance farm income for sustainable livelihood and can live with dignity and honour.




CAO Amjad Hussain Malik while welcoming the dignitaries and participants briefed about importance of Kissan Melas & exhibitions as these not only serve as medium of interaction of departments with end users i.e farmers and helps them in making appropriate decisions while inspecting those technologies or their available models.

These fairs also help other entrepreneurs to exhibit their achievements, products, technologies so as to inspire more and more people to adopt the worthy ones.




Guest of Honour, SSP Kishtwar exhibiting his keen interest in Agriculture motivated farmers to adopt innovative farming models like of Vertical farming and mixed farming. He also laid stress on farmers becoming innovative and should not be dependent upon government for subsidies but become self-reliant.

Various other speakers informed the participants about new technology avenues available for enhancing income like apiculture, Mushroom production, Vegetable cultivation, Hi-Tech Poly House & Poly Tunnel, Vermi-Composting, Millet Production, Value addition etc.




Participating officers of Allied Departments including Animal Husbandry, Horticulture, Fisheries etc briefed the participants about various schemes, activities & innovations.

Chief Guest Dr. Yadav while lauding the efforts of department of Agriculture directed the department to identify around 200 vacant school buildings which can meet up requirement of infrastructure.

He also laid stress that more and more interactions and public awareness programmes should be conducted with enhanced frequency and at multitude of places.




Retired CAO S.K BHagat also expressed his views and appreciated tireless efforts of the department which is working on just 20% of sanctioned staff strength.

DC along with dignitaries presented Power-Tillers on 50% subsidy to 5 farmers.Beside this, all the participating farmers were provided with mini-kits containing Agri-tools & Vegetable seeds.
