DC Kishtwar discusses the modalities for the Bio-Medical and Plastic Waste Management in the District

With an aim to ensure that the Bio-medical waste produced in Hospitals and COVID 19 quarantine and isolation centers are disposed of properly and safely in the district, today Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Sharma chaired the meeting of the concerned officers and discussed the modalities for the effective Management of Biomedical and Plastic Waste in the District.

The meeting was attended by ADC Kishtwar Kishori Lal Sharma, CMO Kishtwar Dr. R S Manhas, Medical superintendent Dr. Parveez Iqbal Wani, CAHO Sanjay Sen, District Pollution Control Board officer, BMOs besides other concerns.

 



 

During the meeting, the Action Plan for the safe collection, segregation, handling, and disposal of  Bio-Medical waste produced at  District Hospital Kishtwar and in quarantine centers/isolation wards was discussed.
 Besides issues like use of dedicated trolley and collection bins in Covid 19 isolation wards, handing over of COVID Waste to authorized staff, maintenance of separate record of  COVID 19 waste, seizure of polythene in shops, provision of separate color-coded bins with foot-operated lids, regular disinfectioning of trolley, bins, and containers, proper collection and disposal of used PPE kits, mask, head cover linen gown in the yellow bag were also discussed in the meeting and a number of directions were given to the concerned department.
CMO Kishtwar and the Medical superintendent of District Hospital were directed to ensure the proper disposal of the Biomedical wastes as per the guidelines of the Hon’ble NGT.

 



 

A joint team of the Pollution Control Board officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, and Executive Officer Municipality was directed to seize the polythene in shops and direct all the shops to collect the plastic and hand it over to Municipality for proper disposal.
Meanwhile, the Concerned health officers were directed to ensure the collection of the Biomedical wastes and other solid wastes produced in the quarantine centers separately in the Yellow bags and thereby dispose of them at designated centers established by  Urban local bodies.
The Deputy Commissioners also directed the CMO Kishtwar to designate the Nodal Officers who shall conduct the training program for the waste handlers besides shall ensure that Bio-Medical is properly disposed of.
